Crib Shopping

Jim came through his surgery and is recovering nicely, so we decided to do look around at some cribs. We only considered cribs that converted into full size beds as our child ages, often called "3 in 1" or "5 in 1" cribs. We were amazed at the large variance in quality and price among cribs. Prices ranged from $299 - $649 (the conversions cost extra), with the higher priced cribs showing a definite improvement in quality and stability. Jim, having a background in furniture, shook every crib on display. Many of the lower priced cribs were loose and rattled when they were shaken. We have yet to decide exactly which crib to buy, but we are leaning toward the Young America (by Stanley Furniture) and the Bonavita (by LaJobi Industries) brands. They were some of the more expensive ones, but there was no comparision in the quality. These two brands were superior in every aspect. Matching pieces, such as dressers and changing tables had dovetailed drawers, while the cheaper brands were simply stapled together. If anyone has information on other cribs, we would like to hear about them.

Thanks.
