Today James met a couple of new friends. Mommy and Daddy enrolled James in a Saturday morning play group to give him the opportunity to interact with other children and learn socialization skills. James may need some help in this area. When he met his first new "friend", James introduced himself by trying to pull the pacifier out of the other little boy's mouth. (James never took to the pacifier, so maybe he was trying to help the little boy break the habit). The play group meets every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM and has about 20 other children between the ages of 12 months and 24 months. The play group is called the "Young Walkers" and it structured to not only allow the children a chance to play and interact, but also learn skills such as signing (sign language).
James: I know how to sign the words "book", "more", "all done", "play" and "fun". Miss Ellen taught me the first three and my play group taught me the last two. The play group also taught "more", but I already knew that one.
Aunt Carolyn: Kids learning sign language at this age seems to be a very big thing. My boss' daughter who is two has been learning signing and when I asked her about her sweater she signed that it was pink. I think they pick it up and learn it quicker when they are younger. Hopefully James will makes lots of new friends.
